Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
