19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is particularly special," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional title, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
