Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials demonstrated fury after the ex-president alleged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be detained and sentenced "by death" following their posting of a contentious video.

The Message That Sparked the Dispute

The recorded message, released on earlier this week, includes six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in defense or intelligence positions.

"Similar to us, you all swore an oath to defend and support this founding document," the officials stated in the short video. "At present, the risks to our constitution don't only come from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our statutes are explicit, you can reject illegal orders, you can refuse unlawful commands, you have to decline improper directives. No one has to execute commands that violate the legal system or our founding principles."

The Former President's Furious Response

The recorded statement appeared to trigger a angry response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump posted on his preferred platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he wrote: "This represents really bad, and Harmful to our Nation. Their words cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Representatives Answer

Following Trump's remarks on that day, Top Democrats issued a joint declaration denouncing the comments.

"Political violence has no position in America," they declared. "Representatives who were featured in the video all served our United States with tremendous national pride and distinction. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's offensive and risky threats of violence against elected officials, and call on Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to guarantee the security of these officials and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must immediately remove these extreme digital publications and recant his violent rhetoric before he causes harm," the statement continued.

Representatives' Firm Answer

The officials who were featured in the video also published a response.

"We identify as veterans and defense specialists who care for this United States and swore an oath to protect and support the founding document of the United States," they stated. "That oath continues forever, and we aim to maintain it. No intimidation, coercion, or incitement will stop us from that sacred responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the former president considers it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to restate the statutes," they continued. "Our service members should understand that we have their protection as they execute their oath to the founding principles and responsibility to follow only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "All citizens must join forces and censure the president's requests for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a period for ethical certainty."

More Political Reactions

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's remarks and posted on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is calling for the execution of government members."

He stated: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. All senators, every Representative, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should condemn this right away and absolutely."

The Conservative official supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This represents very risky, you have prominent officials of the government instructing military personnel to disobey orders, I think that's historic in American history."

The Republican leader also according to sources stated to the press that in what he read of Trump's messages, Trump was "describing the crime of sedition" but that "lawyers have to parse the wording and determine all that."

White House Statement

During a White House press conference on later that day, when inquired by a journalist, "Does the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson replied: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the ex-commander in chief is responding to," the official declared. "There are active officials of the American legislature who conspired to arrange a digital communication to individuals of the US military, to active duty service members urging them to disobey the president's proper directives."

She said: "The sanctity of our military depends on the command structure, and if that system is violated, it can result in people getting killed, it can cause chaos, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are essentially encouraging."
