Former BBC Advisers Participate in Members of Parliament's Inquiry Following Allegations of Prejudice in Disclosed Memo
We open with queries from Conservative lawmaker the panel's head, who oversees the panel.
She commences by offering context to the leaked memo prepared by Michael Prescott and published in the Telegraph.
"I don't want the BBC leaning toward one side or the other, I just want it straight, unbiased and fair," he says.
In response to a query whether he thinks the BBC is systematically partial, he responds: "Absolutely not. It is important to note, a great deal the British Broadcasting Corporation does is top-tier - encompassing documentary and non-factual programming."
However, he continues: "There is significant effort that requires attention at the BBC."
A further former external BBC adviser questioned by the panel, Caroline Daniel, says she regards the BBC extremely earnestly and that it maintains a "persistent practice and lively discussion" regarding dynamic and complex subjects.
"Whether the BBC was prepared to engage in a proper discussion and argument and take action?" she reflects. "In my view, yes they were."
