Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
