Monarch to Deliver First-Hand Statement on Cancer in Nationwide Broadcast
King Charles has recorded a intimate address concerning his journey with cancer, which will be broadcast as part of this year's annual cancer awareness initiative, spearheaded by a leading cancer charity and a major network.
Buckingham Palace said the King would discuss his "recovery journey" as a person living with the disease, in a video message on this Friday at the evening slot.
The message, filmed within Clarence House recently, will emphasise the critical nature of preventative health checks to help guarantee more people catch the illness at an treatable phase.
This will be a uncommon insight on the medical condition of the King, who has been undergoing regular treatment since revealing his diagnosis in early last year. However, it is believed doubtful the King will specify his type of cancer.
The Campaign's Primary Goal
The annual charity event each year generates donations for medical research and therapies and urges people to get check-ups to increase the probability of an early diagnosis.
The King's public discussion about his condition, and his experience as a patient, has been aimed to raise awareness and to encourage more people to get screened - and this will be taken a step further with this unusual personal contribution.
So far the King's main approach to his cancer has been to maintain his duties, preserving a hectic timetable despite his ongoing course of treatment, and he is understood not to have sought to be characterised by his illness.
The past twelve months has seen the King, 77, undertaking several overseas trips, such as visits to Italy and Canada, and receiving the highest tally of official guests to the UK for decades, which included the German president in recent days.
Friday's Evening Programme
This Friday's Stand Up to Cancer show on the network, presented by well-known figures such as a team of famous hosts, will urge people not to be afraid of getting preventative tests.
All three have been personally touched by cancer - one host disclosed last month she had received treatment for a tumour, while Clare Balding was diagnosed with a thyroid condition more than 15 years ago. Presenter Adam Hills has previously mentioned his late father, who had one form of cancer and then later blood cancer.
The programme will appeal to the estimated millions of people in the UK who charities says are not compliant with NHS screening schemes, with an digital tool to let people see if they are eligible for examinations for several common cancers.
In an attempt to explain screenings and show the benefit of prompt detection there will be a direct feed from hospital departments at medical facilities in Cambridge.
"My aim is to reduce the stigma from preventative tests and prove everyone that they are not isolated in this," stated Davina McCall.
The Landscape of National Services
At present in the UK, there are several key publicly available checks - for major health concerns - available to eligible individuals.
A recently launched scheme for lung health is also being phased in for individuals at high risk of being diagnosed with the disease, specifically targeting people of a certain age, who currently smoke or used to.
Men may request prostate cancer checks, but there is lacking a standardised service operational.
Funding Research
The Stand Up to Cancer initiative, which has generated over one hundred million pounds for many years, is funding 73 clinical trials with many patients.
The Monarch, in a message for attendees at a gathering for related organisations in the spring, had referred to recognising the "daunting and at times alarming situation" for cancer sufferers and their loved ones.
But he said his experience of managing cancer had revealed that "the most difficult times of illness can be alleviated by the kindness of others," as he commended those who cared for individuals with the illness.
Official sources has not revealed the specific type of cancer the King has, or the therapies he has undergone. The King's cancer was discovered following he had received a routine operation.
