A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, with one shot at him before fleeing on foot.

The reason behind the incident remains unclear and no arrests have been made, police said.

How It Happened

Authorities said that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a building close to the Carlton Centre.

He had been present for hours at the building supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.

"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," an official report said.

Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a security uniform firing shots on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the attack.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were found at the location.
