Supporters Demand Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are urging that a man who leaped a fence and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade accompanied by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Several supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote another response on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of fans had gathered in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and earned 10 Academy Award nods, earning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
