The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
