The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
