The United Kingdom is ready to advance with employing the full worth of immobilized Russia's funds to bolster Ukraine's defense operations, PM Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the officials of the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany stated that this coordinated action would escalate tension on Russian President Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to come to the table.

They added that the decision would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.

United Kingdom penalties have immobilized over £25bn of Russian assets since the Russian government initiated its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, previously, money allocated to Ukraine using Russia's assets had exclusively been sourced from earnings and returns generated on them.

Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and Germany were united in their desire to drive progress toward employing the total worth of the seized Russian sovereign funds to halt hostilities.

He noted that further restrictions over the next period would heighten the tension on Russia.

This statement comes after European Union leaders convened in Copenhagen previously to consider using frozen Russian assets for a €140bn credit to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, US President Donald Trump called on Group of Seven partners to seize or employ frozen Russian holdings, based on reports.

The value of frozen Russia's holdings in the Europe is estimated to be almost €211bn.

President Zelensky calls on Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to join the PURL programme

Moscow launched widespread aerial attacks across the Ukrainian territory on Friday, causing electricity outages in many areas of Ukraine's capital, the city, and multiple additional areas.

A pair of individuals were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the strike, authorities in Ukraine reported.

In a post on X following the attack, Zelensky wrote that the cynical and calculated attack targeted non-military and power facilities.

"The necessity is not mere statements but firm measures - from the United States, EU, and the seven nations - in supplying defense mechanisms and enforcing sanctions," he stated.

"All penalty impositions weakens the Russian war effort," Zelensky wrote, in a separate post.

In the same period, Zelensky told media outlets he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the PURL programme, under which alliance members buy military equipment from the US to donate to Ukraine.

While praising the United Kingdom's strong support for Kyiv, he remarked it should demonstrate clearly that it would take part in the initiative, as well as apply more measures on the Russian Federation.
